What are the Carry Forward Rules

Carry-forward rules mean unused leaves that an employee is allowed to carry over into the next leave year. Typically, this happens at the end of the financial year, and this saved leave is often called earned leave or privilege leave. 

For example, if you have 5 days of holiday left at the end of the year, your employer may let you use those days in the following year instead of losing them. The specific rules depend on company policy and employment contracts.

Set up Carry Forward Leaves

To configure these settings, start by going to the settings in the left-side menu and selecting the "Configurations" option.

Then click on the "Carry Forward Rules" option under the Leave Management category of the side menu.

This page lets you manage carry-forward rules.

  1. First, you have to select a leave type from the dropdown that you want to assign as Carry Forward Leave.

  3. Then you can update the Maximum Leave count.

  4. Notes
    Here, you can set the Maximum Leave Count to 0 to get all leaves without any limit.

  5. Also, you can update the Utilisation Expiry month count.

    Here you can set to 0 for no expiration on carry-forward leaves.

  7. After setting up the details, you have to click on the green round button to save the carry-forward leave details.

    You can see a success notification like below.

  9.    If you want to set a condition for Automatically applying carry forward to next year, just open the toggle switch with that.


  10.  You can use the Assign for 20XX (your current year) button to manually set up carry-forward leave for the months.

    Notes The "Assign for 20xx" (Current Year) button allows employers to manually set carry forward leave at the beginning of the year. This is useful in cases where they need to approve or reject any pending leave requests from the previous year before running the carry forward process. If there are no pending approvals and the automatic trigger is enabled, the system will automatically process the carry forward on the morning of January 1st.
    However, if approvals are still pending, the company will receive an email notification stating that the process could not be completed. The "Assign for 20xx" (Current Year) button becomes available 30 days after January 1st, allowing manual adjustments if needed, but after that, it is disabled.

After done V or VI step(s) you have to click the save button at the bottom of the page.

Edit / Remove Carry Forward Leave

To edit a Leave type, first select it from the dropdown menu. This will show the information you previously added. Then you can update there Maximum Leave Count and Expiry Month Count. After changes, you have to click the green round button.

To remove it, simply uncheck the Allow Carry Forward check box and click the round green button.
